How Do I Sell My Wedding Photography?

I know that couples put a lot of care and planning into their wedding day.  I recognize that they are looking for many things when selecting their wedding photographer.

Some of the comments from couples, family and friends when photographing a wedding are: I wish I put more emphasis on wedding photography, pictures will be the most important thing to remember my wedding day, I will always cherish my wedding pictures, I love my wedding pictures.  My goal, in working with all couples, is the last two comments.

When I first meet a couple I try to let my wedding images and albums do the selling.  I am not a salesman but a photographer in the business of selling my expertise and vision.  I tell couples to evaluate the style and quality of wedding photography.  Evaluating photography and all artwork is a very subjective experience.  Every couple will have a different idea of a style of wedding photography and how it will fit their wedding day ideas and wedding venue.  I explain the quality and value of my photography.  Pricing quality photography is a tricky business.  I price my photography to give couple a good value and fill my wedding season calendar.  Value, or the bottom line, is always going to be important in every couples wedding budget.

I do not charge extra for time or charge for blocks of time: four, six, eight hours, etc.  Throughout my photography career, I have never taken pictures on the clock.  Getting good pictures and capturing the special moments takes time and patience.  A wedding photojournalist cannot force a couple into documenting the wedding in blocks of time.  Rather than enjoying your wedding day and just letting everything flow, your now watching the clock.

I offer couples my wedding photography along with my expertise in the post-production of the wedding photos.  This means I edit and enhance a select number of images (Usually 200 to 450) with Photoshop.  Every digital image that comes out of the camera needs work.  The process may be as simple as a minor tone adjustment to more advanced color correction and sometimes extensive use of Photoshop to remove a background item and more.  My goal is for a couple to have a beautiful collection of wedding pictures.  A collection of edited images that starts when getting ready to the last moments of the party.

I also provide a wide selection of wedding albums and books.  After a couple selects the pictures I design the wedding album.  Designs can be traditional, modern or bold.  I work and fine-tune the design with the couples input every step of the way.  Again, my goal is to have the best pictures I can take designed into a high quality wedding book that will last forever.
